About the Project
Halal Scan is a mobile app that turns a single barcode scan into an instant halal verdict. Built for everyday shoppers, it checks packaged food against a continuously growing database of verified products and surfaces a clear halal, doubtful, or non-halal result in seconds — with ingredient-level detail behind every answer.

Uncertainty in Everyday Halal Shopping
Muslim consumers had no reliable way to confirm a product's halal status while standing in the aisle. Certification information was scattered across labels, certifying bodies, and manufacturer websites, and dense ingredient lists full of E-numbers and unfamiliar additives made quick, confident decisions almost impossible.
Fragmented certification data
Halal status lived across different certifying bodies, labels, and websites instead of one trusted source.
Unreadable ingredient lists
E-numbers, animal-derived additives, and alcohol-based flavorings were buried in fine print shoppers couldn't decode.
No in-aisle verification
There was no fast way to check a product's status on the spot, leading to guesswork or abandoned purchases.
Inconsistent global standards
Halal interpretations vary by region, leaving Muslim consumers without one dependable reference point.
From fragmented halal data to one trusted scanner.
We turned scattered certification records, ingredient science, and real shopping habits into a single mobile experience — from understanding how Muslim consumers actually shop to designing, validating, and shipping an app they could trust in the aisle.

Instant Halal Verification, Powered by Data
We built a mobile app that turns a single barcode scan into an instant halal verdict. By pairing camera-based scanning with a continuously updated database of verified products, Halal Scan delivers a clear halal, doubtful, or non-halal result in seconds — plus tools to search, save, and share halal-friendly choices with family and friends.
Scan any packaged product's barcode and get an instant halal, doubtful, or non-halal verdict backed by a database of 1 million+ verified products.
Build and share halal shopping lists with family and friends in real time, so everyone shops from the same trusted information.

More than a scanner — a daily halal companion.
Beyond verification, Halal Scan brings prayer times, Qibla direction, mosque locations, duas, and an Islamic calendar into the same app, so users open one trusted tool for everyday shopping and daily worship alike.
A clearer way to shop, verify, and practice with confidence.
By bringing product verification and everyday Islamic tools into one connected platform, Halal Scan gives Muslim consumers a single, dependable reference point — cutting guesswork at the shelf and supporting daily routines well beyond the store.
Unified Verification Engine
Barcode scanning, ingredient analysis, and manual search all run on one continuously updated halal database, so every result carries the same level of trust.
Community-Verified Accuracy
Products missing from the database can be submitted by users and reviewed by our halal research team, keeping coverage growing and accurate.
Built-In Islamic Tools
Qibla direction, prayer times, a mosque locator, duas, a tasbih counter, and an Islamic calendar extend the app well past the checkout aisle.

Typography
We paired Plus Jakarta Sans for headings with DM Sans for body copy to balance a warm, trustworthy tone with everyday readability. Since the app is often opened quickly, mid-aisle, clarity had to come before anything else.
